The MEC for education, Lindi Masina, urged learners to use visual art and design to showcase the beauty and culture of Mpumalanga.
A prize-giving ceremony of the Visual Arts and Design Competition for schools was hosted at the Mbombela Arts Gallery Thursday, August 7.
The event celebrated the talent, creativity and dedication of over 300 Grade 10 to 12 learners from schools across the province, who participated in this year’s Visual Arts and Design Competition.

According to the Department of Education’s spokesperson, Gerald Sambo, the visual arts and design curriculum nurtures imagination, self-expression and innovation.
“It equips learners with vital life skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and entrepreneurial thinking, preparing them for exciting opportunities in the creative industries.
“We applaud every learner, educator and stakeholder, who continues to elevate arts education as a cornerstone of holistic learning and youth empowerment,” said Sambo.
Masina requested that they continue to use art to showcase the beautiful landscape of the province through the eyes of the young artists in our schools.

“Through these art displays let the world appreciate the richness, warmth, caring spirit, and tranquillity of our province,” said Manzini.
She said there is absolutely nothing that could limit the learners; they must just go out there and prove their worth.
