Cute Monkey Card Paper Craft for Kids

Monkey Card Paper Craft

If you’ve ever had a little kid in your life, then you know monkeys are always a hit.  Whether it is going to the zoo to visit them or buying a stuffed animal, you usually can’t go wrong with a monkey.  Making this simple card is just another fun way to include the favorite animal in their day.  I love homemade cards made by children because it really encourages them to think of others. 

Call me old-fashioned, but I love the idea of kids being taught to send cards for birthdays, holidays, and as a thank you when someone sends them a gift.  Making their own, like this one, is a great way to make it even more personal.  A simple handmade craft is great, and this card is a perfect choice.

What is the Best Paper for Homemade Cards? 

I like to use thicker card stock or construction paper for cards like this one. Since you want it to be a bit sturdier, you need thicker paper than other crafts.  I often have large packages of simple colored paper, but for this one, it all goes to the thicker options. 

In fact, while I haven’t tried it yet, I think this would be a great project for using foam paper to make it last longer.  Another option would be to use basic copy paper or construction paper and then laminate it using a simple page laminator and trim around the edges.  This would keep it strong and safe for years! 

Use your extra paper to make these adorable paper tulips!  Another fun idea for the younger kids would be these fun Winnie the Pooh paper plates, or the adorable puppy paper plate crafts.  So fun and easy to make! 

Can I Mail This Via USPS? 

You can definitely mail this like you would any card.  The only things you would need to consider would be the weight of the card, and that it would need an oversized envelope.  For projects like this, I just grab a simple manilla envelope and mail with the extra postage.  If you are good at crafting things out of paper, you could make a custom homemade envelope with fun scrapbook paper.

Supplies Needed

How to Make a DIY Monkey Card

Begin by folding the orange paper over about ¼ the way down as shown, and then cut a circle out leaving the folded area folded so it creates a double-sided circle. 

Once this is cut from the paper, you will see it opens easily for the “card” part of this project. 

Now, you will trace two small rounded ears onto the orange craft paper and cut those out and set aside. 

Trace and cut out two more rounded ears, only slightly smaller, on the cream-colored paper.  These will be the inside of the ears. 

Glue the cream ears onto the orange ears. 

Attach the ears to the top of the circle “head” with the open side being the bottom. 

Now, you will draw a face shape on the cream paper and cut it out. 

Glue the face onto the top of the head as shown, and then draw on eyes, a nose, and mouth with a black marker. 

Now, you will draw the body on another piece of orange paper.  You will want a long oval shaped body, and then rounded legs on each side as shown. 

Next, cut out an oval of cream paper as shown to go on the middle of the belly. 

Glue the body in place on the head. 

Lastly, draw and cut out a tail to attach to the back of the monkey. 

Write a simple message on the inside of the “head” of the monkey and share it with friends or family! 

Crafters Tips

If freehand drawing shapes is difficult for you, feel free to use a stencil or a template.  You could also do what I often do with shapes I am struggling to draw, and use a Cricut machine to use an SVG file template.  Not only does it give you the shape, it will cut it out for you!  

Another easy option for this is to find a coloring book with a monkey shape, and cut it out to then trace onto your paper using it as an easy template!
