One of the Lake District’s most historic houses is gearing up for a festive transformation.
Blackwell, the Arts & Crafts house in Bowness, will become a seasonal marketplace during the Winter Craft Fair, running from Friday, November 14 to Sunday, November 16.
Visitors will have the chance to shop, meet artisans from the area, and explore a landmark of British arts and crafts design.
The Winter Craft Fair, spread over three days, will turn Blackwell’s period rooms into a Christmas shopping haven full of handcrafted items.
The fair will feature the work of more than 15 artisans, offering a range of products from ceramics and textiles to woodcraft and leatherwork.
Some of the confirmed makers include Lauren Frost Ceramics, KARRIE Knitwear, Humblewood, Monica Metsers Fine Art, Morgan Leather, Pendula, Purple Dragon Workshops, Nicholas Hobbs Furniture, Fabulous Fripperies, Sara Turton from JaLoJo, Lakeland Mosaics, and Catriona Orr from Esk Collected.
The event is designed to be more than just a craft fair.
It’s an opportunity to explore one of Britain’s best arts and crafts houses while meeting artisans who are preserving traditional craftsmanship.
Visitors will be able to enjoy seasonal treats in the tea room and take in the views of Windermere throughout the house.
Entry to the Winter Craft Fair is £8 per adult, which includes full access to the house and the current contemporary exhibition ‘Motif | Line | Colour’ by Frances Priest.
Entry is free for Lakeland Arts members.
Due to the event’s popularity, pre-booking is highly recommended.
However, walk-ins will be accepted if space allows.
The fair is running from 10am to 4pm on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Concessions are available, and annual pass holders and Lakeland Arts members can attend for free.
Tickets can be booked at lakelandarts.org.uk/events/winter-craft-fair-at-blackwell.
