This is a monthly club for all generations to come together, share skills and learn more about museum conservation and collections.

Our fantastic facilitators will lead the sessions, showcasing a new specific skill or technique which could be used to look after your own objects at home.

Come and meet like-minded peers in a friendly environment, work on exciting team and individual projects, and learn new skills from each other.

Workshops last for 90 minutes and feature activities and demonstrations. Refreshments are included.

Still life at sea

Saturday 10 August 2024 | 10.30am – 12pm

painting of a radio-operator or navigator's post in the Cromer lifeboat, with a shaft of light coming through the open bulkhead door from the neighbouring space

Join artist Joel Sydenham to develop your painting skills and techniques whilst being inspired by the painting The Ever-waiting Chair (the Cromer Lifeboat), from our very own collection.

You will get a chance to connect with this painting, gaining an understanding of what life at sea would be like for some members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). You will then get to create a unique still life, and a brilliant study in colour yourself, with the guidance of Joel.

Want to learn more? Make sure to check out our Women of the RNLI exhibition at the National Maritime Museum.

For this session all supplies are provided.

Routes to Roots

Saturday 7 September 2024 | 10.30am – 12pm

Join us in the Collection Centre’s Community Garden to celebrate nature’s roots! Facilitator Lucy-Anne will be delving into the fascinating history of potatoes and other root vegetables such as yams, ginger, turmeric, horseradish, carrots, and sweet potatoes. She will be explaining their origins and their unique cultural significance.

With our newfound knowledge we will be creating some root art. We will be learning to carve roots to create unique stamps and use them to print beautiful greeting cards. These handcrafted cards are perfect for sharing with friends and family, spreading joy, and potentially discovering new ‘Routes’ for your artistic expressions.

For this session all supplies are provided.

Please note: this workshop will be held as part of Heritage Open Days at the Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre.
