The 54th annual Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival will return downtown to Columbus Circle and surrounding streets this weekend from July 25-27.
The free, family-friendly event will feature approximately 140 artists traveling from 22 states and Mexico to showcase their work. Festival admission is free.
It runs Friday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors can explore view and shop for contemporary arts and crafts including ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting, woodwork, jewelry, and textiles and enjoy refreshments throughout the three-day festival.
Ira and Sue Lances of Staten Island sell hats, scarves and jackets at the festival. They will return for their third year this weekend, selling at the Handmade Chenille booth.
“I just love the banter in the booth and the excitement when the customers tries something and a person walking by says that looks great on you,” she said last summer. “Next thing I know, they turn to me and say I’ll take it and then I get their credit card. I love that part.“
The event will take place at the intersection of East Onondaga, East Jefferson, and Montgomery streets.
On Saturday, July 26, about 50 artists will create sidewalk art all done in chalk as part of the Stay Fresh Chalk Jam.
In addition to visual arts, the festival will feature street performers and musicians adding to the lively atmosphere throughout downtown.
The Syracuse chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present mini-organ recitals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Plymouth Congregational Church.
