Madhubani Painting
Madhubani is one of the most celebrated and renowned Indian art forms that originated in the Mithila region of Bihar. This art remained hidden until British colonial officer William G Archer found it after a massive earthquake in Bihar in 1934. The painting was done on the interior walls of the houses. It simply depicted the culture and traditions of the region. The eye-catching geometric patterns, symbolic images, and scenes from mythology make this painting stand out. Bharni, Katchni, Tantrik, Godna, and Kohbar are the five distinct styles of this painting.
Warli Painting
Warli is one of the ancient Indian art forms originating in the regions of Thane and Nasik areas of Maharashtra. This 2500-year-old art form is linked with nature and the social rituals of the tribe. It showcases the daily activities of the local people of that community like farming, dancing, hunting, and praying. This painting uses twigs to draw while rice paste is used as colours.
Kalamkari Painting
Kalamkari painting is a 3000-year-old art form that uses hand and block printing techniques. This art form is connected with Persian motifs. The term Kalamkari derives its origin from Kalam or pen and holds a legacy that has been handed down from generation to generation in Andhra Pradesh.

Miniature Painting
The Miniature painting style came to India with the Mughals in the 16th century. Further, it developed as a distinct style with a combination of Persian, Islamic, and Indian elements. The painting uses natural stone colours on a paper-based Wasli.
Kalighat Painting
This Kalighat painting style was developed in a temple in Kolkata around the mid-19th century. The painting was done by a group known as ‘pataus’ hence the name Kalighata Pata. It depicted everyday life scenes and mythological deities.
