Art Center of the Bluegrass announces fall break camp, printmaking with Lacy Hale

Fall Break Camp
Art Center of the Bluegrass in Danville, Kentucky, will host their annual Fall Break Camp from October 6-10, daily from 9 am to 2 pm. Campers in grades 1-5 will enjoy a variety of hands-on activities celebrating the season. From autumn-inspired art projects to Halloween-themed crafts and outdoor games, there’s something for every young artist and explorer. Kids will make new friends, develop their creativity, and enjoy the magic of fall and Halloween in a safe and welcoming environment. Printmaking with Lacy Hale
The Art Center will also offer a very special week-long residency with artist Lacy Hale. Space is limited for this no-cost, all-female printmaking camp, targeted to young women in middle and high school (ages 13-18). Funding from the Kentucky Foundation for Women makes this free camp possible. Registration is required. Register at artcenterky.org/registration
The students will create artwork reflecting their identities, sense of place, and/or social issues that are meaningful to them. The residency will introduce students to a new art form and will culminate in a public display of their artwork. Through the creation and display of their work, students will be empowered to celebrate their role as change-makers in their community.
Lunch with the Arts with Lacy Hale
Hale will also speak at Lunch with the Arts, from noon to 1 pm on Tuesday, October 7. This is a free cultural conversation, held in the Main Exhibit Hall at the Art Center.
Hale is a nationally recognized, award-winning painter, muralist, and printmaker based in southeastern Kentucky. At the age of five, she knew that she wanted to be an artist. At 18, she attended Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York. At 20, she returned to southeastern Kentucky to pursue her professional artistic career. Hale has exhibited widely throughout Kentucky and New York City.
Her work was included in a traveling Smithsonian exhibit in 2012. In 2018, Hale received the Eastern Kentucky Artist Impact Award. She was a 2017 Special Grant recipient from Great Meadows Foundation, a 2018 nominee for the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painting Award, a 2016 Tanne Foundation Award recipient, a 2015 Nominee for the Joan Mitchell Foundation Emerging Artist Award, and a 2015 and 2020 recipient of the Kentucky Foundation for Women’s Artist Enrichment Grant. Hale was awarded Appalachian Artist of the Year in 2021 and 2022. In 2024, she was awarded the Eastern Kentucky Culture and Arts Leader of the Year.
Her murals can be found all over the state of Kentucky and in Virginia. She is the creator of the “No Hate in My Holler” slogan and design.
Hale is co-founder of EpiCentre Arts, a 2016 Rauschenberg Foundation Seed Grant recipient, based in Whitesburg, Kentucky. She served two years on the board of the Kentucky Arts Council. Her work has been mentioned in Time Magazine by Kentucky author Silas House. Grammy Award-winning hip hop artist Ishmael Butler also owns one of her pieces.
