A celebration of printmaking. That’s the main theme for the exhibit, “The Island Voices: UOG Alumni & Student Printmaking Exhibition & Paper Boats Project Portfolio,” which opens at 5 p.m. Thursday at the University of Guam Isla Center for the Arts.
It features more than 180 works by students, alumni, and faculty, including linocut, woodcut, screen print, intaglio, lithography, monotype prints, and monodrawings.
The exhibit, curated by UOG professor of art Irena Keckes, PhD, highlights more than a decade of creative output from UOG’s FA 203 Printmaking Studio classes.
Faculty works include a woodcut triptych by professor of art Ric Castro and a monotype by emeritus professor of art Lewis Rifkowitz.
The show also includes two video works: Beads, a collaboration between Keckes and Katarzyna Zimna of the Femigraphic Print Collective, and Discover, a creative video by professor of communication Raymond Anderson, PhD.
Paper Boats
The second half of the exhibit, Paper Boats Project Portfolio, features contributions from artists across North America, Europe, China, and Guam.
Presented as unfolded sheets, the artists explore the theme of water through a variety of printmaking methods.
The project was initiated by Los Angeles Printmakers and artist Mary Sherwood Brock and has been exhibited previously in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Italy, and Los Angeles.
The 5 to 7 p.m. public reception will be at Isla Center, located at #15 Dean’s Circle on the UOG campus.
The exhibit will remain on display through Friday, Nov. 28.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed on Sundays and holidays.
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
