DOORS to studios in a former Edinburgh school are set to open to members of the public as part of an annual event.

Abbeymount Studios, based in a building of historical significance, the former Regent Road School, is now home to more than 50 resident artists and makers.

They say that everything is made by hand and items featured include ceramics, glass, photography, painting, printmaking, illustration and fashion and textiles.

Visitors will have the opportunity to take home an item, with many of the works being on sale over the weekend.

Posting online yesterday, the organisers said: “Ever wondered what goes on at Abbeymount Studios?

“The 19th century former Regent Road School is now home to over 50 artists and makers, and facilities include purpose-built workshops with tools and equipment for fashion and textile design, ceramics and printmaking.

“We’ll be opening our doors this weekend for our Summer Open Studios – it’s a great chance to meet some of our artists and makers and find out more about their work.

“From paintings and illustrations, to ceramics and photography, there’s something for everyone.”

The studios say that more than 700 visitors were welcomed to their most recent occasion, the last Winter Open Studios.

The event will take place from 21 June to 22 June, 12pm-5pm each day.

Abbeymount Studios is a centre for making, design and creating in Edinburgh and was set up by the Out of the Blue Arts & Education Trust back in 2016.

They aim to offer facilities and resources which will allow professional makers to develop their businesses, as well as hobbyists and those learning a new craft.

Regent Road School was built in 1874 by Scottish architect John Chesser.
