What: Music on the Mall is located in Center Court near Cora Physical Therapy. The performer Sept. 19 is Swingbilly RFD, performing high energy rockabilly music. This is a re-scheduled show.

Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters
What: In conjunction with the release of their newest album, “Pepper Tree Hill,” The Boxmasters are touring the United States. This marks their 19th release as the ever-prolific J.D. Andrew and Bud Thornton showcase their love for the sounds of the sixties and the inspiration of their studio. Formed in 2006, The Boxmasters have recorded a diverse catalogue of music that touches on their love of a wide array of influences, but most importantly, the rock and roll of the 1960s. Listening to The Boxmasters, one can hear odes to the Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys, but also The Mothers of Invention, The Allman Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine and Big Star.

Tipsy History
What: Join Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum staff to hear stories from local history. Participants will receive three drink tickets for the two-hour, 21+ event. A walk-through of the historic Greenwood Cemetery Chapel will be included. The stories shared will not be the same program as the previous two events. Photo IDs are required at the door. Proceeds will go to Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum and Greenwood Cemetery Association to assist with historic upkeep, operations and renovations.

Leanne Morgan: Just Getting Started
What: Leanne Morgan rose to prominence with her debut Netflix special “I’m Every Woman,” showcasing her relatable humor and Southern charm. Two Rivers Bluegrass Festival
What: The 42nd annual Two Rivers Bluegrass Festival will feature artists including the Magtones, Unknown Suspects, Flat Creek Highway, SoundBillies, Bert & Lindy, the Bluegrass Reunion Band, Holy Crowe, the Steves, Grass Attack, Truman’s Ridge, the No Worries Band, Coffee Creek, Carl Bentley Band and more. There will be guitar and fiddle raffles, concessions, jamming sessions and a 50/50 raffle. Bring a lawn chair.

Glow in the Garden
What: Buy a floating lantern ($5) to personalize and release into the Eclipse Lagoon, run a unique glowing 5K along the Rock River and enjoy family fun throughout the gardens. The free Glow in the Garden 100-meter Kids Fun Run starts at 7 p.m. The Glow in the Garden 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:30 p.m. Fee ($40; $20 for ages 12 and younger) includes t-shirt, NCG admission ticket and beverage ticket.

Live at the Wooden Handle: Taboo Blah Blah
What: Taboo Blah Blah, one of Rockford’s most beloved and lyrically fearless folk-rock bands known for gritty grooves, soul-touching fiddle lines and lyric-forward songwriting, will perform. Beer, wine and snacks will be available for purchase at the on-site beer garden and gear shop.

Sand Volleyball Tournament
What: NAMI Northern Illinois hosts “Bump Each Other Up,” a sand volleyball tournament. Help raise awareness and funds for local support, education and advocacy efforts. Every dollar raised helps NAMI Northern Illinois provide essential resources and programs for those affected by mental illness. All skill levels are welcome. Spectators are welcome to watch, and to learn more about NAMI Northern Illinois. Tickets include lunch. Prizes for best team costume and last team standing.

Passionate Rhythms
What: The RSO begins the 2025/26 season with passionate rhythms of Spain and Russia. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, a celebration of Spanish folk music, showcases the colorful range of the orchestra, as the themes dance through the instrument families. Ponce’s Concierto del Sur features the sounds of the classical guitar, performed by returning guest virtuoso Daniel Bolshoy. The concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

Through the Flames is joining these groups for bags, bikes and giving back. The bags tournament supports Through The Flames, helping burn survivors and their caregivers, and Wolf Pack Social Club, a community of riders with heart supporting Luries Children Hospital. The bike show is Saturday, with a car cruise on Sunday. There will be a kids zone with bounce houses and a dunk tank. Lecture Series: Skuggi
What: Analog: Rockford’s Decade of Creative Rebellion celebrates the dynamic and innovative art scene of Rockford in the 1990s, showcasing local artists who left a significant mark on the community’s artistic landscape. The Skuggi Gallery, which was located on Seventh Street, emerged as a hub for unapologetic creativity. Talented artists transformed an old building into a vibrant space for frequent gallery shows, where they explored diverse mediums including installations, performance art, painting and sculpture. Executive Director/Chief Curator Carrie Johnson will talk with featured Skuggi artists including Matt Herbig, Kim Van Laeke, R Scott Long, Scott Snyder, Betsy Youngquist and Rick Zillhart.
