FLETCHER, N.C. (WLOS) — One of the many attractions at this year’s North Carolina Mountain State Fair is the Heritage Circle exhibit, which features a range of activities, from beekeeping to paper folding.
Curtis Cecil, from Thomasville, is one of the featured artisans. A professional “lampworker,” Cecil sculpts glass with a blowtorch.
He fashions the glass into figurines, marbles and incredibly detailed ornaments.

Cecil said he started glass sculpting in high school chemistry class, after being inspired by a chemistry kit given to him by his parents.
Cecil’s exhibit, along with other heritage artisans’ work, is in the Virginia Boone Building at the fair.
The North Carolina Mountain State Fair runs through Sunday, Sept. 14, in Fletcher.
