I have always found sculptures fascinating and have wondered what it takes to make something so intricate out of a solid block of material. I think ice is one of the most fascinating materials used. How do they get it so clear, and how do they carve it without the giant block cracking?
Now it looks like I have two fascinating sculpture materials obsessions, as I have found out that a sculpting artist will be coming to Colorado this summer.

Meet “The Cheese Lady” in Aspen This Weekend
No, it’s not ice. This material is very tasty and pretty much everyone I know loves it. We’re talking about cheese. Sarah Kaufmann, better known as “The Cheese Lady”, will be in Colorado this weekend, sculpting a gigantic 500-pound block of Wisconsin Cheddar into a work of art in Aspen.

This live cheese carving event will take place at Aspen’s Food and Wine Classic on Friday, June 20, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Clark’s Market located at 300 Puppy Smith Street.

The cheese being used to carve is a special cheese from Henning’s Cheese, a family creamery located in Kiel, Wisconsin, and has been around for 111 years. According to the Aspen Times, this creamery is one of only a handful of creameries in the United States that still make large cheese wheels that could be as large as 12,500 pounds and a whopping 10 feet wide.
