Finding a flattering, supportive and stylish swimsuit is no easy feat—there are hundreds of options on the market, all promising to lift, sculpt and support. I’ve found that most options are supportive or stylish, but it’s hard to find one that checks both of those boxes. The brand’s swimwear has been on my radar for several years (I wrote about them in my guide to the best tummy-control swimsuits), but this is the first time I’ve tried it for myself. Both pieces I tested have a smooth feel and plenty of stretch, which makes them easy to pull on. I was impressed by how comfortable the two-piece felt despite the built-in compression. I usually avoid compression fabric because it feels too constricting, but I was shocked by the amount of movement I had in this swimsuit.
The tankini top has a stylish square neckline, a built-in shelf bra and thick straps. The shelf bra provides support and coverage in the chest area, but it doesn’t look bulky or unnatural. While I typically opt for swimwear with removable cups for extra shape (I’m small-chested), I didn’t mind the look of a top with a built-in shelf bra instead. The proprietary fabric is crafted in a 100-year-old French mill and offers UPF 50+ protection, which is a nice bonus.
The tummy-control bikini bottom has a high waist, as the name implies, to suck in your midsection and provide a soft, sculpting effect. It felt snug when I first pulled it on, but I quickly got used to the feeling. I appreciate that the back isn’t too revealing, so I can wear this without feeling like too much skin is showing. I found that both pieces run true to size, and the size guide on the website is accurate. If you’re not used to compressive fabric, your usual size might feel tight at first, but you can always size up if you prefer a looser fit and don’t care as much about tummy control.
I tested both pieces during March, which is too cold for the beach or pool in New York, but I could wear the swimsuit around my apartment and under my clothing. I loved that the tankini looks like a top and can be worn with jeans, shorts, maxi skirts and flowy linen pants. I have the tankini in the color Hot Pepper, which is a bright cherry red, and I loved how it added a pop of color to the neutral bottoms I typically wear. I look forward to pairing this with my wardrobe’s many neutral-colored skirts and linen bottoms when it gets warmer.
Although you can find cheaper swimwear on the market, both pieces feel high-quality, and I love the compression fabric, which is the perfect blend of support and comfort. I’m planning a trip to Italy at the end of the summer season, and I know this swimsuit will be a versatile piece that transitions from the pool to dinner, as the tankini can pair with an array of bottoms. Finding a soft, stretchy, supportive and flattering swimsuit is tricky, but Stylest’s DreamSculpt collection is now a mainstay in my summer wardrobe.
