WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Five premier art venues will come together in a unique collaboration this weekend in Wausau for the annual Artrageous Weekend.
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, the Center for the Visual Arts, the Wisconsin Valley Art Association-Art in the Park, Rise Up, and Wausau Festival of Arts all come together to create a city-wide cultural experience. Each location offers its own distinct exhibitors, activities and artist showcases.
Birds in Art
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Birds in Art this fall. For the past 50 years, Birds in Art has presented original paintings, sculptures, and graphics created by artists from around the world.
The exhibition will feature artwork by more than 100 artists selected by a panel of jurors, including international artists representing 16 countries, and 41 previously named Master Wildlife Artists.
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is located at 700 N. 12th St.
Art in the Park
Sponsored by the Wisconsin Valley Art Association, Art in the Park is held at Marathon Park in the Exhibition Building and East Gate Hall. Shoppers will find affordable fine art and handcrafted items. WVAA member artists will be doing artist demonstrations and local nonprofit groups and businesses offer a variety of options in the food court.
Center for the Visual Arts
The Center for the Visual Arts will host extended gallery hours and exciting demos all weekend. There will be live wheel-throwing demos and a special demonstration by Really Big Prints.
The Center for the Visual Arts is located next to the Grand Theater at 427 N 4th St.
Wausau Festival of Arts
Downtown Wausau will be transformed into a fine art marketplace featuring works from over 120 artists, food, live entertainment, a silent auction, family art and entertainment and “Still Young at Art” classes for adults.
Rise Up
The public art nonprofit, Rise Up, will offer a variety of activities in its free makerspace, including sewing, quilting and many other crafting options.
Rise Up’s free public art studio is located at 622 N 3rd St.
