The Anderson Museum of Art (AMOA) invites the community to the opening of its 14th annual Figures of Speech juried exhibition from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 as part of Downtown Anderson’s First Friday celebration hosted by the Anderson Art Alliance. A public awards presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m.
Figures of Speech challenges artists to creatively interpret everyday idioms, metaphors, and poetic expressions through visual art. From the humorous to the heartfelt, this one-of-a-kind exhibition transforms language into imagery, encouraging viewers to see common phrases in entirely new ways.
Juror: Susan Yanos
This year’s exhibition was juried by Susan Yanos, a celebrated poet, author, and award-winning fiber artist. In addition to her literary work, she has exhibited intricately pieced art quilts nationally and regionally, and curated notable exhibitions exploring women’s stories through fiber. She is a 2023-24 On-Ramp Fellow with the Indiana Arts Commission and brings a unique, cross-disciplinary perspective to this year’s show.
Evening highlights include:
- R.T.S. (A Reason to Shop) vendor market featuring local makers and community partners
- Refreshments for all guests
- A children’s Art Wellness activity designed to engage young visitors
- A look at new inventory in the AMOA Shop, perfect for art lovers and gift seekers
