CVAN South East has announced two new appointments at the organisation.

EDWARD BALL, a curator and writer, has been announced as its new chair, taking over from FIONA VENABLES.

Ball is currently director of Devonshire Collective, a cultural and community organisation in Eastbourne that commissions cultural projects from emerging, underrepresented artists.

Prior to joining Devonshire in 2021, Ball was the inaugural artist development curator for Freelands Foundation’s Artist Programme.

Ball said: “It’s an honour to join CVAN South East as chair, working with our steering group to build connections and community in our visual arts ecosystem, and to advocate for our sector’s vital civic and economic contributions.

“We want to raise awareness of what CVAN South East can do for artists, freelancers and organisations alike – fostering collaboration, strengthening networks and sharing best practice – and to support a greater diversity of voices and perspectives in collaboratively shaping our next chapter.”

The network has also announced a new addition to its steering group.

RUTH JARMAN, one half of artist duo Semiconductor, takes up an artist position on the CVAN South East steering group.

As part of Semiconductor, Jarman has worked with fellow artist JOE GERHARDT for more than 25 years.

CVAN South East is one of nine regional networks in England that comprise the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN).
