BLUEFIELD, Va. (WVVA) – Plein painters both globally and locally gathered and enjoyed their common hobby together.
Every year The International Plein Air Painters host a worldwide paint out, this year the organization celebrated its 24th year.
The Appalachian Artist group met September 7th to take part in this annual tradition.
The artist met at The Historic Sanders House in Bluefield Virginia.
Plein air painting is a type of painting that is done outside where the artist can capture the scenic view in real time.
Member of Appalachian Artists, Cindy Gillespie, says she first began plein air painting 25 years ago and says being outside helps her properly portray the beauty in her artwork.
“I like to paint outdoors where you can actually feel the air where you can actually touch the items you’re painting so you get the true essence of it. I would just like to share my appreciation for all of this with my viewers,” said Gillespie.
