A new exhibition showcasing 14 leading British and Irish painters begins on February 7, 2026.
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David will present a trailblazing project inviting art lovers to explore the role of ‘disruption’ in contemporary painting.
The exhibition, entitled Disruptive Painting, launches in Swansea College of Art’s Stiwdio Griffith on February 7, and will run until March 12.
The artwork on display will span a wide range of contemporary practices, inviting visitors to delve into various creative strategies such as photorealism, world-building, and genre collision.
Curated by Maison Trampoline and organised by Professor Sue Williams from UWTSD, this project links artists whose works were previously not seen together.
Artists featured include Alejandro Luna, Bex Massey, David Surman, Donal Maloney, Emma Cousin, John Walter, and Kate Bright.
The show will also feature pieces from Lubaina Himid, Lulu Bennett, Mark Jackson, Ross Taylor, Sheila Rennick, Sue Williams, and Vilte Fuller.
The showcase aims to push viewers to question and reconsider traditional perceptions of painting, as it tracks unexpected connections among artists, unearthing patterns, similarities, and differences in their practices.
Visitors can explore the exhibition from 10am to 4.30pm from Monday to Friday throughout its duration.
A series of in-studio interviews, carried out during the research process for the exhibition, offers insights into how painters work with and against habit, routine, and other creative constraints, adapting painting as a technology through continual disruption.
The initiative is supported by the UWTSD Catalyst Fund and Maison Trampoline.
