Since George Clinton launched his groundbreaking bands Parliament and Funkadelic in the 1970s, millions of people have heard and felt the funk. Now, the folks in his adopted hometown of Tallahassee can see the funk as well. The evening of May 14, the LeMoyne Art Gallery on Gadsden Street hosted throngs of excited fans who came to admire Clinton’s “Funkadelic Visions” exhibit, while meeting and taking pictures with their hero.
The exhibit is a mix of painting and mixed media. Many of the works portray various images contained in the P-Funk song catalog.
Speaking with WFSU, Clinton said he considered his visual art an extension of his music. But he also acknowledged the more reflective and solitary process of creating visual images had been a form of self-therapy at a time he really needed it.
Several other regional artists are represented in the exhibit, which runs through June 27th.
