Atlanta-based printmaker Jamaal Barber is headlining a new exhibit in February at the Taylor-Grady House at Landmark Commons on Prince Avenue.
The showing “Home & Family: A Printmaking Exhibit” was selected for Black History Month and sponsored by the University of Georgia’s Black Artist Alliance and the Printmaking Student Association.
The show opens on February 6 and remains on display through February 27.
Barber, according to a release from Taylor-Grady, is “known for his intricately layered relief prints that examine Black identity, memory, and community.” Barber has exhibited his work nationally.
Also, 14 student artists affiliated with UGA and two UGA faculty members will present original work in the printmaking media.
Barber and the students will participate in an Artist Talk at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at Taylor-Grady. The exhibit and talk are free and open to the public.
Cindy Haygood, the Visual Arts Committee chair and board member for Taylor-Grady, issued a statement saying, “We’re celebrating the power of shared stories, creativity, and community. Exhibitions like this deepen our understanding of home and strengthen the cultural ties that bind us.”
