Join us to hear Artist-in-Residence Bryn Sumner discuss their residency project, and the epic journey that informed it!
In 2021, Sumner completed a solo thru-hike of the 485-mile Colorado Trail. From photos taken during the hike, they began to develop a new series of etchings based on images of trail marker rock cairns from the San Juan mountains of Colorado. Sumner’s residency project at CCP expands this body of work to a new region: New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest, exploring the cairns leading up to Mt. Madison, Mt. Adams, Mt. Jefferson, and Mt. Washington. Hand drawn, abstracted, etched in copper, and finally printed, these exquisite prints echo the artist’s passage through alpine zone of New Hampshire’s famous Presidential Traverse.
