Kim Kardashian’s cult shapewear label made an unexpected new launch overnight: SKIMS face sculpt wrap.

And while the imagery looks like it could have been plucked from a post-surgery clip on BOTCHED, it has beauty buffs instantly intrigued.

The new sculpting wrap, which appears to working similarly to that of a compression garment, was announced on the SKIMS Instagram account.

“Just Dropped: The Ultimate Face—our first-ever face innovation, made with signature sculpting fabric and infused with collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support,” the post read.

But, as Tiernan Watson, cosmetic nurse and founder of Brisbane skin clinic, HOT TEC tells us, this isn’t revolutionary technology, in fact, we’ve seen countless iterations before. This time it’s just repackaged with some Kardashian sparkle.

“The idea behind the SKIMS Facial Sculpting Wrap isn’t new — we’ve seen versions of this before, like face taping or compression tools designed to fight gravity and sculpt the face,” she explains.

Does SKIMS Sculpting Face Wrap Work?

The new wrap is crafted out of the same fabric blend as Skims’ best-selling bodysuits and are “infused with collagen yarns”.

According to Dr Ahmed, known as The Aesthetics Doctor, the SKIMS’ face sculpt wrap can reduce the appearance of puffiness and swelling for a more sculpted-looking jaw-line. However, the effects are temporary.

“Wearing a tight garment like this can temporarily reduce puffiness and swelling, and have an almost shaping effect because it reduces any fluid in that area. But then, ultimately, things will just go back to how they were before. It doesn’t actually permanently change anything,” he told Cosmopolitan UK.

He also warns against possible detrimental impacts of continued use.

“Constant pressure on the face can affect lymphatic drainage and the skin barrier, [cause] irritation and so on.”

Watson suggests that rather than a stand-alone treatment for a sharper jawline, the sculpting wraps may better serve as a secondary support.

“When used consistently, wraps like this can absolutely support facial contouring and help maintain results from in-clinic treatments. Results will always be better when paired with high-performance treatments,” she says.

“Using a wrap like this at home can be a great way to complement and extend those results, but it’s not a replacement for the real deal.”

What Is Collagen Yarn & What Does It Do?

Collagen yarn is used in the medical field and is a textile infused with collagen (as you may have guessed) to help increase moisture in the skin and improve the appearance of tone.

It’s well documented, including studies from Harvard Health, that there is a lack of evidence supporting the oral and topical effects of collagen.

Dr Ahmed adds that experts have “not been able to formulate a product where the collagen can penetrate the skin deep enough to really make a significant difference.”
