PILLAR Gallery + Projects and Kimball Jenkins Estate announce their first collaborative exhibition, “ON/OFF The Wall,” a contemporary printmaking exhibition in Concord, on view from Friday, June 20 to Friday, Aug. 15. An opening reception will be held on June 20 from 6-8:30 p.m.

“ON/OFF The Wall” features printmaking artists working in a variety of mediums and scale, ranging from traditional to non-traditional printmaking methods including installation, three-dimensional, and larger-scaled work. The works reflect the multitude of processes in contemporary printmaking including combinations of serigraphy, monoprint, relief printing, etching and innovative new approaches. Artists include Annie Silverman, Mary Mead, William Mitchell, Rachel Gross, Chris Beneman, Anne McMillan, Aric Russom, Lynn Newcomb, Andrew Heath and Mike Smoot.

Smoot’s intricate and gyroscopic abstract works examine ideas of interconnectedness and universal systems. He combines traditional printmaking methods such as lithography, silkscreen and relief printing with contemporary digital tools to create elaborate geometric forms that reference geologic and ecological structures.

Mitchell creates vibrant, abstract landscapes in silkscreen. His painterly serigraphs capture his natural affinity for the regional landscape, often through high-key palettes and shape-driven moments depicting coastal and forest scenes.

The exhibition also includes innovative three-dimensional methods, including Beneman’s sculptural prints collaged from maps, combining fragmented architectural imagery and imagined cityscapes. The exhibition brings together both traditional and non-conventional methods to highlight the possibilities of the storied art form of printmaking.

“ON/OFF The Wall” will also feature a small print shop in person and online for viewers to take home works from artists featured.

The exhibition was facilitated and co-organized by Mary Mead of Summit House Press, printmaking faculty at Kimball Jenkins and PILLAR Gallery + Projects. Proceeds of the exhibition support ongoing efforts of the printmaking studio and educational programming at Kimball Jenkins School of Art.
