From microcurrent to radiofrequency devices, skincare tools are becoming more and more popular to help supercharge your routine. But not every effective device needs to be as high-tech as your LED mask. When it comes to sculpting and depuffing the face, a simple cryotherapy wand does wonders.

Cold therapy isn’t new, but there are a slew of new and affordable tools that help you reduce inflammation and add a radiant glow in under a few minutes. “Gone are the days of sticking your face into a bucket of ice water,” says Elizabeth Grace Hand, an aesthetician and founder of Ställe Studios. “Cryotherapy wands are great for reducing puffiness, increasing circulation, calming irritated acne-prone skin, and tightening the skin.” These small but mighty wands use cool temperatures as a vasoconstrictor, which narrows blood vessels. “This works the same way you would apply [ice] to an injury to help with swelling and inflammation,” says Hand.

While there are a range of different cold-therapy tools on the market, they all give you the same depuffing and sculpting results. “It comes down to personal choice,” says Samantha Susca, master aesthetician at Casa Cipriani Spa & Wellness in New York. From gorgeous, sculptural globes to gua-sha-shaped tools that are designed to stay cold for hours, we rounded up the coolest cryotherapy wands that you’ll be excited to use each morning.

How do you use a cryotherapy wand?

Once you pop the tools out of the freezer, Hand recommends running them under water to remove any ice particles. To give skin slip while gliding the tools around your face, make sure to apply a serum, moisturiser, or oil before rolling the tool on your face in upward and outward motions. While cryotherapy wands are a great solution to active breakouts, it’s critical to remember to clean the tools between each use.

Who should use a cryotherapy wand?

Since there’s no real technology involved—just cold therapy—anyone and everyone can use cryo wands. “They are great for anyone, specifically those dealing with breakouts and irritation,” Hand says. “The cold temperature constricts blood vessels, so redness, swelling, and inflammation are reduced. Plus, it numbs any area with active breakouts, so they not only look better but feel better too.” If you’re worried about the cold sensitising your skin or are prone to broken capillaries, Susca says to use the tools on top of a sheet mask or biocellulose mask.
