Oblique Arts, a Cambridge-based organisation working to explore creative potential through visual arts and music projects, held a Beat Bopping art and music exhibition at Grantchester Village Hall.

The event, held at the weekend (30-31 August), showcased art and music from the participants of Oblique Arts’ Art for Wellbeing and Music for Wellbeing workshops, which are funded by Arts Council England and Cambridge City Council.

The workshops enable those with mental health challenges to explore their creativity.

Beverley Carpenter, founder and co-ordinator of Oblique Arts, which is sponsored by Weyman Funeral Directors, revealed that the name ‘Beat Bopping’ came from one of the songs the team wrote.

“We’ve got a CD of original songs from Oblique Arts, and that’s the title track,” she said.

Beverley continued: “The exhibition was lots of work done by the artists of Oblique Arts, and also our students, over the last year.

“We filled the whole of Grantchester village hall and the reading room. We had lots of artwork for people to explore and people from across the city came along – and many people bought prints to support our work.”
