Palazzo Blu organizes an exhibition that maps Pisa’s artistic scene from the 19th to the 20th century, focusing on the work of brothers Francesco and Luigi Gioli. Curated by Stefano Renzoni, with drawings selected by Bianca Cerrina Feroni, the show brings together works from public and private collections and family archives.

The exhibition examines the Gioli brothers’ influence on local artistic culture and their connections with movements related to the Macchiaioli and Divisionism. The show is structured to highlight the School of Staggia, the Macchia movement, post-Macchiaioli developments and Pisa’s artistic legacy.

Highlights include works and contextual references to artists who worked in Pisa, such as the Tommasi brothers, Amedeo Lori and Plinio Nomellini, as well as pieces by Spartaco Carlini and Giuseppe Viviani. A notable section presents unpublished drawings from the Gioli family archive, including preparatory studies for celebrated paintings like Pesca alla Sciabica and Boscaiole di San Rossore.

The display is divided into six thematic sections that reconstruct artistic contexts and underscore the Gioli brothers’ central role in shaping Pisa’s figurative culture.
