Thousands of people are set to descend on the Netley Marsh Steam & Craft Show for three days of non-stop entertainment.

This year’s line-up includes Horsemen of the Knight, the Ken Fox Wall of Death, and the Southampton Society of Model Engineers.

Spectators will also be able to view a large selection of steam engines, plus cars, commercial vehicles and motorbikes from bygone eras.

The 2024 event raised more than £30,000 for local charities and other good causes.

Formerly known as the Netley Marsh Steam Rally, the show was first held in the early 1970s and was initially called “The Puff-in”.

The attraction has grown over the past 54 years, with about 15,000 people attending last year’s show.

A spokesperson said: “We are looking forward to welcoming over 50 steam engines to this year’s event, both miniature and full-size.

“The show includes a working steam area where you can see the engines being put to work cutting wood, threshing, and even stone crushing.

“We also have a selection of showman’s engines which will be lit up in the evening around the bar area.

“For the first time in many years, steam engines will be running all day, every day over the three-day event. We’ll also be welcoming the Horsemen of the Knight jousting team and Ken Fox’s Wall of Death.

“Over the last few years, we have been working to make the show a family day out with something for everyone.”

The spokesperson said South Wilts Falconry would stage daily displays, with spectators able to handle the birds as well as taking part in the activities on offer.

“We will also be holding a fun dog show in the same arena – this was met with great enthusiasm by visitors last year.”

Live music in the evening will include appearances by bands such as Davey Jones Locker, Rooster, Trav Cats, Got 2 Funk, and The Underdogs.

The annual crowd-pleaser was first held in 1971 to raise funds for St Matthew’s Church, which is next door to the showground.

Golden jubilee celebrations were due to take place in 2021, but the show was axed as a result of the pandemic.
