(Clarinda) — Craft and food lovers will flock to Clarinda this weekend for Iowa’s largest handmade craft show.
The 66th Annual Clarinda Craft Carnival takes place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a variety of locations throughout the community. The event is sponsored each year by the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce. Speaking on KMA’s “Morning Jump” Tuesday, Chamber Director Elaine Farwell says the event is Iowa’s largest handmade craft show, drawing in thousands of visitors and hundreds of booths.
“We have well over 475 booths and they’re going to be at five venue locations,” said Farwell. “We have the Page County Fairgrounds highlighting the Cow Palace and Wibholm Hall, we have the Clarinda Academy, the Clarinda High School, and then the Clarinda Lied Center.”
Craft Carnival Chairperson Kerry Clark says the planning has been underway since February. She says visitors can find a wide variety of handmade items.
“So we have home decor, iron works, garden art, wooden furniture, pottery, and alpaca fiber products,” she said. “We also have handcrafted soaps, custom jewelry, embellished hats, bird feeders, handmade rugs, wearable art, and many more unique items.”
Clark adds that residents can also get their fill of food during the day-long event.
“We’ll have fudge dips, bread mixes, mahapi sauce, freeze-dried candies, and speciality coffee cakes,” said Clark. “There will also be artisan cheeses and sausages, Danish kringles and letters, along with jellies, jams, kettle corn and many more treats.”
Admission to the craft carnival is $5, while children 10 and under can get in free. You can hear the full interview with Farwell and Clark below:
