The Rochester Folk Art Guild has announced the return of its celebrated Craft Weekend, set for August 7–10 at the scenic East Hill Farm. The event offers a unique opportunity for youth and adults to explore hands-on creativity through expert-led workshops in pottery, painting, writing, seed saving, and photography.
Organizers say classes are already filling fast for the annual retreat, which draws participants from across the region for a long weekend of artistic exploration, nourishing meals, and vibrant community life.
“This is more than a class—it’s a chance to fully immerse yourself in the creative process, connect with others, and rediscover your inner artist,” said event coordinator David Barnet.
This year’s workshops include:
- Saving Seeds, Saving Ourselves with Petra Page-Mann of Fruition Seeds, offering practical skills in seed harvesting and processing.
- Drawing and Painting with Stefan Allen, who guides artists of all levels in plein air techniques.
- Writing for Reflection and Transformation with Curt and Nani, who help participants translate life experiences into language.
- Pottery: Listening to the Clay with Annie Schliffer, a master potter with 50 years of teaching experience.
- Photography & the Art of Seeing with Jim Lemkin, offering a fresh perspective on using smartphones as creative tools.
The weekend also includes yoga, hikes, swimming, stargazing, and shared meals prepared with garden-fresh ingredients. Lodging and work-study options are available. Two workshops—Weaving and Woodturning—are already at capacity.
