Has your weapon’s appearance been cramping your style in Monster Hunter Wilds? With Layered Weapons, that’s no longer a problem.
While hunting monsters is the core conceit of Monster Hunter Wilds, its true endgame has always been about fashion. With Title Update 2, we can now craft and equip Layered Weapons, ensuring even the arms we bring into a hunt perfectly match the rest of our outfits.
How to craft and equip Layered Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

To equip a Layered Weapon, you first need to craft the ultimate version of a weapon in its class. If you want to change the appearance of a Rathian Greatsword to a Rathalos Greatsword, you need to craft the final, rarity 8 Rathalos weapon, Rathalos Firesword.
Once you have the final rarity eight weapon on the tree, head to your tent at either base camp or a pop-up camp. Navigate to the Appearance Menu and select Equipment Appearance. From there, hover over the weapon you want to make a Layered Weapon, select it, then choose the weapon appearance you’d like.

Note that your Layered Weapons only work on those within their class. You can’t apply a Longsword appearance to a Sword and Shield, for instance. The game won’t let you open the sub-menu until you’ve crafted the required base weapon at the Smithy.
In other words, if you haven’t built up a stock of the most powerful weapons in the game, get to crafting, because there’s a lot left to do. In the meantime, check out our dedicated Monster Hunter Wilds page for much more on the game.
