PLYMOUTH — More than 30 student artists from the Northland will showcase their art at the Visual Arts State Festival on Saturday, May 9, at Wayzata High School in Plymouth.

The Minnesota State High School League’s festival features nearly 200 artworks from students across the state in a wide variety of media.

This year, Northern Minnesota has at least one entry in each of the 12 categories.

Work is first judged at the section level. There, judges award Spotlight on the Arts honors to a select few. Then those entries are showcased at the state festival.

Blackduck’s Willo Nelson is one of a small group of students with three works of art in the festival, with submissions in the ceramics, painting and sculpture categories.

Gallery viewing is open for two hours Saturday, starting at 11:45 a.m.
