ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A painting bought for $75 out of the back of a pickup truck in Rockford could become one of the most significant Holocaust-era discoveries in recent memory.
Rockford residents Tim Prince and Sarah Thistle believe the work may be among the first known pieces of physical evidence tied to a workshop where Jewish people were forced by a Nazi officer to create copies of European masterworks.
The discovery is now fueling a push to document the story. A fundraiser and art show at OneLightShow was held tonight to help turn the find into a full documentary, bringing together visual artists, musicians and comedians to raise awareness and support for the project.
