I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve still dabbled in my fair share of creative endeavors.

Whether you’re painting a picture or sculpting a clay statue, it’s a slow, iterative process that takes time and concentration, not to mention a pinch of inspiration. You’ll find all three of those within the Painting Workshop of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The Painting Workshop is a fascinating little area in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with three different entrances scattered around the Continent.

Within each entrance is a small platforming challenge, a quick dialogue with the Faceless Boy, and a mysterious statue of an ugly beast. By solving all three challenges within the Workshop entrances, you’ll get to pick a fight with that beast, and get some nifty rewards if you can stomp it.

Minor Expedition 33 spoilers ahead.

Find The Workshop Entrances

The first part of the equation here is actually finding the three entrances to the Painting Workshop. They’re pretty easy to spot; they’re all huge, white canvases just sort of sticking up out of the ground here and there.

If you happen to pass by them in your travels, they’ll be marked on your Continent map for later. Do remember, though, that you’ll need Esquie’s swimming and flying abilities to reach them. It’s just as well, as you should probably save this task for the endgame anyway.

Here’s where to find the three Workshop entrances:

  • On the side of a mountain northeast of the Stone Wave Cliffs
  • Within a forest to the northwest of Forgotten Battlefield
  • On a floating island east of Sirene’s island

Upon entering each of the Workshop Entrances, you’ll need to platform your way down a series of floating frames and narrow beams.

There’s no particular strategy to this, and it’s nowhere near as hard as the climbing challenges on the Gestral Beaches. If you fall, you’ll just go back to where you were, so keep trying until you make it.

Assemble The Pieces

The Faceless Boy in the Painting Workshop in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Midway through each platforming sequence in the Painting Workshop, you’ll come across the specter of the Faceless Boy. Make sure to talk to him, as he’ll have a piece of the puzzle you need.

The Faceless Boy will give you a little diatribe each time you talk to him, but all you have to do is respond “We will” when prompted, and he’ll hand over the items. As you make your way past him to the center of the workshop, you’ll find the statue of the Beast.

Use each of the items the Faceless Boy gave you on the statue to complete it. There’s an exit out to the Continent right behind it, so you can quickly hop out and find the other entrances after you’ve added a piece to the statue.

Fight The Boss

Fighting the Lampmaster in the Painting Workshop in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Once you’ve added the Light of the Beast, Colour of the Beast, and Shape of the Beast in any order, the statue will come to life and move to the large arena past the exit portal, becoming an optional boss you can fight.

This particular boss will look familiar; it’s the Lampmaster, whom you previously fought in the main story at the Stone Wave Cliffs. The fight is largely the same as that encounter, though the Lampmaster has souped-up health and damage stats.

You know the drill; watch his lanterns when he prepares his big attack, and use your ranged shots to tag them in the same order they lit up to cancel it. Beyond that, just be ready to parry his lengthy combos and shoot down any other lanterns he summons. If you take him on with an average party level in the range of 75-80, you should be able to handle it.

You’ll get some nice goodies for beating the Lampmaster again, including high-level versions of the At Death’s Door and Energising Attack I Pictos, plus some Grandiose Chroma Catalysts and a Recoat.

Make sure to talk to the Faceless Boy one more time before you use the exit, as he’ll give you a Perfect Chroma Catalyst as a cherry on top.
