Art Comes Alive at Raven’s Heart Gallery’s Spring Show
By Josh Warburton
Kanab’s most vibrant art hub, Raven’s Heart Gallery, is bursting into bloom with its annual Spring Show on Saturday, May 17 from 1 to 4 PM—and this year’s edition brings more heart, more talent, and an irresistibly cute new feature that could just change your life.
“We LOVE this annual show—featuring LIVE art making demos! It’s so much fun! The perfect opportunity for attendees to watch our artists work their artistic magic,” says Colleen Tomlin, gallery director and creative spark behind the show’s curation. And the excitement is real. Guests are invited to watch Raven’s Heart artists at work—live and in person—creating new pieces and sharing insights about their process, materials, and creative inspirations. From paint and printmaking to photography, ceramics, metalwork and more, the show is a rare opportunity to connect directly with artists and their work in an intimate and interactive setting.

This year’s most buzzworthy debut? Framed sketches of adorable, adoptable pets from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary—drawn by none other than Cyrus Mejía and Carol Bold. “Fall in love with a piece, add it to your art collection, and cherish the experience and memory of meeting the artist,” Tomlin continues. “Brand new this year… framed sketches by Cyrus Mejía and Carol Bold of adorable adoptable pets at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary will make their debut on our feature wall. Scan the QR code to be directed to their corresponding adoption bio and perhaps meet your new best friend!”
Mejía, a co-founder of Best Friends Animal Society and longtime Kanab local, brings not just technical mastery but an emotional connection to the animals he draws. His works, along with those of co-owner Gary Kalpakoff, embody the gallery’s mission: art with heart. Raven’s Heart Gallery has long served as a bridge between creators and collectors, promoting compassion, community, and creativity in equal measure. The gallery also features 30 artists from across the region.

The Spring Show also includes a stacked lineup of artists: Amy Calhoun’s whimsical handpainted vintage furniture, Bonnie Dunn’s glowing ceramic totems and dichroic glass, David Lane’s astrophotography, Gail Alger’s paintings, Willamarie Huelskamp’s paintings, Natalie Gula’s pottery, and Rebekka Anderson’s printmaking. Whether you’re drawn to jewelry by Andrea Johnson, encaustic mixed media by Ellie Mae Clough, or lapidary work from James Mosdell, there’s truly something for every aesthetic—and every budget.
Nestled in the heart of Kanab, Raven’s Heart Gallery has become a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. The gallery features rotating exhibits, hands-on events, and a steady pulse of fresh, inspired work from both established and emerging artists. Co-owners Mejía and Kalpakoff, along with gallery director and artist Colleen Tomlin—who is most often found at the gallery and collaborates with Kalpakoff—can often be found engaging with patrons, sharing stories, and showing just what makes this place so special. They’re joined by Art Sales Consultants and Gallery Assistants Ellie Mae Clough and Amy Calhoun, both of whom are a big part of the team and do a phenomenal job connecting with visitors, guiding art lovers through the space, and helping them discover the perfect piece.

So whether you’re art-curious, on the hunt for your next conversation-starting piece, or thinking about adding a furry friend to your life, this year’s Spring Show is where you want to be. It’s free, it’s festive, and it’s full of soul.
