Shropshire Printmaker Amelia Hemmings Competes in Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year
Shropshire printmaker, Amelia Hemmings brings her distinctive landscape work to Sky Arts, competing against eight artists for the ultimate title of Landscape Artist of the Year.
Amelia will first appear in the competition, presented by Stephen Mangan, on 4 February 2026 in Heat 4 staged in Keswick beneath the imposing slopes of Skiddaw Mountain. Eight artists are given just 4 hours to respond to the vast mountain landscape, battling changing light, fast-moving weather and the sheer scale of the scenery.
Amelia was selected as a “Pod Artist” from more than 2,000 applicants nationwide — a major achievement that reflects both her skill and the strength of artistic talent working locally. Utilising her Ironbridge Fine Arts Gunning printing press and carving tools on site, she brings a distinctive printmaking approach to the competition, grounded in a deep understanding of landscape and a strong sense of atmosphere and place.

The artists’ finished works are judged by an expert panel including Kathleen Soriano, Tai Shan Schierenberg and new judge Eva Langret, who are looking for confidence, originality and an authentic connection to the landscape. The winner of the heat will progress to the semi-final, moving closer to the overall prize: a £10,000 commission for the National Gallery of Ireland. The eventual series winner will be commissioned to create a work responding to Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s famous holy mountain.
For Amelia Hemmings, the episode marks a significant moment in her professional career and a rare opportunity to showcase printmaking on a national stage.

The Landscape Artist of the Year series starts 14 January 2026 and Heat 4 airs on 4 February 2026 at 8pm on Sky Arts, Freeview channel 36 and Now TV.
