Jewelry – Powerful Patterns: Using Motifs in Jewelry

Motifs (or repeating elements) are what jewelry design is all about! Learning to design and construct these units is an essential skill in jewelry making. In this class you will work on a repeating pattern to make earrings, bracelets, and necklaces that feature a motif. Some jewelry studio experience is helpful, but this class is for all levels. Students will purchase a $25 supply kit at Pullen Arts Center. 6 sessions. Instructor: Amy Veatch.

Learn to make earrings, necklaces, and bracelets with beads! Beads, tools, and findings will be provided. Repairing jewelry will also be discussed. All supplies included. 2 sessions. Instructor: Anne Terry.

Printmaking – Prints for Patches

Come join the fun and craft your own lino stamp! We will be using these stamps to create patches that can be sewn or adhered to clothing or bags or even hung on a wall, though you’ll be able to use these stamps to print on paper as well. At the end of the final class, students may opt in to trade the patches they make with their classmates! Beginner and experienced students welcome. A $5 supply fee is due to instructor at first class. Additional supplies can be purchased at Pullen Arts Center. 2 sessions. Instructor: Jocelyn Steslicke.

Painting – Watercolor Magic

Explore the watery world of painting wet on wet, and other techniques used by watercolor artists. You’ll sample effects with this magical medium and go home with a wonderful work on paper. A class for all levels of painting experience. All supplies included. 1 session. Instructor: Julia Einstein.

Painting – Rule Breaking Watercolor

Instructor: Ryan Fox
Ages: 16+

Explore inventive techniques and new applications for traditional watercolor paint. Break the rules of watercolor with non-traditional methods of painting: magnetic paint painting, texturing with spattering paint, dark to light, wet-into-wet bokeh (shallow depth of field), palette knife painting, and more. The workshop will be a learning experience with demonstrations, one-on-one consultations, and constructive critiques. Students will complete several quarter-sheet (11×15”) paintings during each session. All levels of students are encouraged to participate. Students are welcome to bring their own photographs or use the instructor’s photographic resources. Link to supply list prints on receipt. 2 sessions. Instructor: Ryan Fox.

Bookmaking – The Basics of Bookmaking: A Deep Dive

Books can come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are crafted in very different ways. If you are interested in creating unique books but want to take it a step further by filling their pages, this is the class for you. Books included will be simple single-sheet paper books, a pamphlet book, a paper bag book, and a basic Japanese stab-stitch book. Students will learn how to enhance each book using various art techniques, creating a finished piece. If you would like to add your own papers, embellishments, and assorted ephemera to the book pages or covers, please feel free to bring them. A $5 supply fee is due to instructor at first class to cover all other supplies. This class qualifies students for a book studio membership. 4 sessions. Instructor: K. Wood.

Discover the fun of visiting our Pullen Arts Center neighbor, The Gregg Museum of Art, with a sketchbook, pencil, and your closest observation skills! Using a range of drawing tools and exploring techniques, you’ll illustrate this visit to create a book of your favorites among the museum’s collection of art and artifacts. It’ll be a visual storybook! All supplies included. 1 session. Instructor: Julia Einstein.

Discover the vibrant possibilities of enameling in this two-day, hands-on workshop focused silkscreening and stencil sifting on copper. Using specialty enamels designed for silkscreen applications, you’ll experiment with pre-cut copper shapes – including a custom light switch cover – to explore how pattern, texture, and color can come alive in fired enamel. You’ll create a series of samples as you learn, giving you plenty of room to play, practice, and refine your designs. A required $40 fee covers specialty supplies such as Sunshine Enamels, gel medium, blackboard (pre-enameled steel), light switch covers, and assorted copper blanks. Join us for a colorful, creative, and productive workshop that welcomes all skill levels. Instructor: Betty McKim.
