The fifth day of the ‘Abhivyanjana’ art exhibition organised at the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak, on Thursday was a special one as Union Minister of Energy, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar visited the university campus and viewed the exhibition as chief guest. He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia and former minister Manish Grover as distinguished guests.
Upon their arrival at the university, Vice-Chancellor Amit Arya and Registrar Gunjan Malik Manocha warmly welcomed the guests. Khattar viewed the artworks displayed at the exhibition and gathered detailed information from the students about their work. He also participated creatively by painting on a canvas at the exhibit. Moreover, students and staff clicked pictures with the minister at a selfie point set up at the university.
Signing the visitor book, Khattar penned a note for the university community. After viewing the exhibition, the minister attended the award distribution ceremony. During the award distribution ceremony, Khattar honoured the students for their talent and creations and released the university’s coffee table book. About 19 students of the Faculty of Visual Arts were presented the ‘Best Artwork Award’, while 30 students were awarded appreciation medals and certificates. The coffee table book released by Khattar documents and details the major events organised during the university’s current academic year.
Khattar said the exhibition being named ‘Abhivyanjana’ clearly sent its message across. In the exhibition, the voice against social evils, glimpses of folk traditions, heritage and culture were clearly visible. Art and culture are the most effective medium to connect and inspire people.
“Art is not just a means of entertainment, but also a medium for building society and nations. Through films, plays and other artistic performances, one can strive to eliminate social evils and guide the new generation in the right direction,” said Khattar.
He suggested that work should be done under the theme of ‘One District-One Art’ in order to preserve, highlight and promote the traditional and folk-art forms of every district. He stressed the need to preserve and develop folk art forms such as dhamal, jangam, nagada, gatka and bhangra.
