A social media influencer has been accused of shooting at an alligator in the US during a livestream.

Braden Eric Peters, who posts online under the name Clavicular, now faces criminal charges after allegedly discharging a gun unlawfully at a Florida wildlife sanctuary on March 26.

Mr Peters, 20, has built a following around “looksmaxxing”, a trend in which he documents increasingly extreme measures to improve his appearance, including steroid use, testosterone treatments and hitting his face with a hammer.

His lawyer claimed that Mr Peters was “following the instructions of a licensed airboat guide” and that “no animals or people were harmed,” according to US media outlets.

The charges stem from an incident Mr Peters livestreamed in which gunshots appeared to have been fired into swamp water from an airboat in the Everglades Wildlife Management Area, west of Miami, according to Miami-Dade County court records.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the livestream with a statement on X, saying it was “aware of a video depicting individuals in the Everglades on an airboat who appear to be discharging firearms at an alligator” and that officers were “looking into the incident”.
