Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath high schools certainly have more than their share of budding Rembrandts and Picassos with 141 art students recently earning regional medals for their works.
Included among those were 15 who advanced to the Visual Art Scholastic Event state competition to be held in April.
VASE is a program organized by the Texas Art Education Association to recognize and celebrate student achievement in visual arts. It is the largest art competition of its kind in the United States, designed for middle school and high school students across Texas.
Students submit original 2D or 3D artwork that demonstrates creativity, technical skill, and personal expression. Each piece is evaluated in a one-on-one interview with a juror, where students discuss their artistic choices, process and intent. Top-rated pieces advance to the state VASE event where students can earn gold medals and scholarships.
