Clanton Intermediate School’s Selena Easterling and Hadley Lively both had award-winning artwork selected in the art contest at the 2025 Alabama State Superintendent’s Visual Art Exhibit in Montgomery. The two sixth-grade students, along with CIS art teacher Haley Lively and Chilton County Schools Superintendent Corey Clements, traveled to the awards program for the exhibit on March 12. Haley Lively entered five pieces of artwork from her CIS students into the contest, and two were selected to receive honors.

Hadley Lively won first place in the photography division for her photograph of 3D forms that she created. The division consisted of fourth-sixth grade students statewide, and her artwork was selected as the best.

Easterling received an honorable mention for her artwork — a print that she added hand-drawn marker on top of. Her division was also made up of fourth-sixth grade students from across Alabama.

“This was such a surprise,” Haley Lively said. “I have not had any artwork place in (the) five years (we have entered the contest), so to have two winners in one year was a great achievement.”

Both student’s artwork was on display at the Alabama State Capital until March 28.
